When Babur left Kompanion the company had over 36,000 active customers, loan portfolio outstanding USD 17,000,000 and over 550 staff, PAR over 1 day was less than 0.2%. Before Kompanion Babur worked as Executive Director of Barakot, a successful women’s micro credit fund based in the Uzbek part of the Ferghana Valley that was founded by Mercy Corps. There, Babur led the growth and professional development of Barakot into Uzbekistan’s largest microfinance organization. Under Babur’s management, Barakot’s outreach more than doubled in a two-year timeframe, from 3,200 to 7,500 customers, and the loan portfolio grew from $256,000 to $1,000,000. Babur also introduced professionalized management information systems, policies and procedures. Prior to leading Barakot, Babur served as Program Director for Mercy Corps’ women’s group lending program in the Kyrgyz Republic. Under his supervision, the number of customers increased more than three-fold, from 3,500 to 12,500, and the loan portfolio multiplied more than five-fold, from $200,000 to $1,100,000. Babur comes to Mol Bulak Finance highly regarded in the microfinance sector. Babur graduated with degrees in Law and English language from Osh State University, Kyrgyzstan. During his undergraduate studies, Babur spent a year abroad in the USA at Mississippi State University to study International Business. In summer of 2007, Babur successfully graduated from the three year program of the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking, in USA in summer of 2007. Babur also had training on leadership and negotiations at Cambridge, MA, USA with professors from Harvard in spring of 2007. Babur also served as Deputy Board Chair at Credit Bureau established by commercial banks and microfinance institutions in Kyrgyzstan and as a Board member of Asian Credit Fund in Kazakhstan, an MC-founded small business development lender. Babur also provided consultancies and training to Mercy Corps microfinance programs in China and Afghanistan. |
